June 14th to 17th - Switzerland

Switzerland is the first country that me and Lavrina visit in Europe. It is a super expensive country, most of our money was just purely spent on transportation and food. A meal costs like 15CHF (about 20SGD) and train tickets between cities is like 50 to 100+ SGD. Even their airport clocks are ROLEX!
We are staying in my friend's place (Muthu's) who has been on exchange to ETH, the university that Einstein graduated from. His hostel is in Zurich and it is one of the Euro 2008 host cities of Switzerland. The picture below is taken in the Zurich train station.
We arrived and put down our stuffs at the hostel which is in Berninaplatz at about 12pm, took a bath and quickly went to our first destination - The RheinFalls, which is the largest waterfall in Europe. The train ticket to the fall was expensive. Even though we dropped at the wrong stop, it was actually a better spot to start seeing the Falls.

Climbing up and down the Rheinfall is pretty tiring eh?

We then took a boat ride to the middle of the Rheinfalls and climbed up the stone in the middle.

That night, we walked around the Zurich city a little bit and took some night scence photos. We were so tired that we didn't do any clubbing or pubbing as we had slept at the airport in Skavsta (Sweden) earlier, because our flight was so early that no first train could take us there on time.

The 2nd day, we took some kind of tourist package to go to Mt Rigi - the Queen of the Swiss Alps. Not that fantastic though, but still very expensive. The package was about 370 sgd for the two of us. It included a cable car ride up to the middle of Mt Rigi, a Cog Rail Train ride up to the summit, a Cog Train down to another place (Vitznau) where we take a ferry ride back to Luzern. It was pretty worth it because a return train ticket for Luzern already costs about 70+sgd per pax.
This was the cable care ride up. Its a really long way up, to about 1000m high.

This is near the top already after the Cog Rail Train. Here its 1752m above sea level.

And here we are at the tip of Mt Rigi. It was really cold up there, probably about 1degC. We even saw some snow flakes for a few seconds.
And here's the ferry ride back on a lake which I can't recall its name now.
We arrived at Luzern, another city of Switzerland and there were quite a lot of swans there roaming around.
Below is one of oldest and the longest covered-wooden bridge in Europe. We didn't really had time to tour Luzern because we had to catch the tour bus back to Zurich.
And here we are back at Zurich, and we saw the Swiss preparing themselves to support their team tonight in the group A match between Switzerland and Portugal.

In the night, we went to the fans zone to catch the match. The whole stretch of streets by the river was turned into a fan zone, stretching about 2-4km long. There were outdoor pubs and big screens screening the matches in this fanzone. This video below was taken when Switzerland was awarded the penalty against Portugal. "Hopp Switz!"

The 3rd day, we toured Zurich and the Munster was the first that we visited. It is one of the icons of Zurich and we climber 184 steps up to enjoy a pretty good scenery of the city.
This was taken at the top of the Munster.
The stairways were really narrow especially at the beginning, and it was even more challenging when on the way down!

After that we went to Fraumunster which isn't really special except for some paintings in the Church and we weren't allowed to take photographs inside.

Then, we went to St Peter's Kirche, which has the largest clock face in Europe and it's shown below.

This is taken in the old town of Zurich.
What we did last was to walk around the "orchard road" of Zurich after that, but we didn't really buy anything because everything was so damn ex!
